Page 2 of 2 How long will it take to address the combined sewer overflow problem?MSD will spend the next several decades working to decrease the region’s combined sewer overflows. The sheer magnitude of the problem, 199 overflow locations in St. Louis City and County, reveals how comprehensive the District’s sewer improvements will have to be. It will have to work for many years with the public, legislators, municipal officials, community leaders, business owners and operators, environmental advocates, researchers and others to upgrade the region’s sewer system. While this sewer redesign and construction will take decades, planning with the public and community stakeholders has already begun and will continue through the late summer of 2009.
